I purchased 'Candy' as part of a started pair of Mille Fleur bantam Cochins. It didn't take me long at all to realize that I loved the look of the mostly white Cochin with the specks of red, gold and black scattered all over her body, even more than I did the more traditionally colored mille fleurs. Every time I posted a photo of Candy, people wrote to me to say what a beautiful bird she was. I discovered that many others also loved the looks of the excess white "Sports" that occasionally popped up in the Mille Fleur Cochin projects
Not only was she beautiful, but Candy was also very sweet and very funny! She quickly stole my heart and became the inspiration for my quest to develop a new variety of Cochins that will be called "Calico Cochins".
The Calico Cochin project is in it's very beginning stages. There are fanciers from all over the United States working on it! Unfortunately, I lost Candy (and the clutch of eggs that she was setting on!) to a dog attack before I ever got any chicks from her. But I was lucky enough to get two more Calico pullets from Candy's breeder, Tim Kerbo, of Oklahoma. These two pullets, along with a mostly red and white, bantam Cochin rooster, will be the foundation flock for my Calico Cochin project.
In February of 2010, "Opal" hatched out the very first generation of Calico Cochins.
Opal is a wonderful Mom and her chicks are growing and thriving.
I will be offering a limited number of started pairs, trios and/or Calico cockerels for sale in Spring of 2010
